The German Union Police’s Counter Terrorist Force. This Special Force was established after the humiliating blunder of the German police in the 1972 Olympics known as the “Munich Massacre.”
From this tragedy, the Germans realized that a counter terrorists force was needed to safe guard the public. The Grenzschutzgruppe 9 or Border Guard Group 9 (GSG9) was established in April 16, 1973 with Ulrich Wegener as its leader. Driven to save their country’s face, the GSG9 has thwarted several terrorist operations including the 1977 “Operation Fire Magic” which was considered one of the most difficult hostage situation a Special Force could face. Also, the GSG9 swept the SWAT World Challenge in 2005 where they won all the events.
